Building My Portfolio Website

How I built my online portfolio and turned learning into a product

Why I did this
When I decided to pursue Product Management, I wanted a space that could do more than just list my CV. I wanted a site that shows how I think, how I learn, and how I build.

So I set myself a challenge: build my own portfolio website from scratch and treat it like a product — with users, goals, and continuous iteration.

What I built
I created louiseintech.com, a portfolio site including:

  • About page (my story + PM narrative)

  • Projects/blog section (case study style writing)

  • Strengths page (PM skill mapping)

  • Credentials section (proof of learning)

How I did it
I followed a structured YouTube tutorial to learn the basics of WordPress and web design, then adapted it to suit my goals. I focused on:

  • layout and navigation

  • consistency across pages

  • accessibility and readability

  • user journey (how a recruiter would browse)

To take it further, I partnered with a Computer Science Graduate who supported me with:

  • hosting and setup

  • site maintenance basics

  • helping me understand how websites run behind the scenes

Product thinking (what this shows)
This project demonstrates core Product Management behaviours:

  • learning fast and iterating quickly

  • building an MVP first, then improving

  • thinking about the user (recruiters/hiring managers)

  • collaborating with a technical stakeholder

What I learned

  • how WordPress websites are structured (themes, pages, plugins)

  • how design decisions affect usability

  • how technical hosting works at a high level

  • how to manage a build project end-to-end

Next steps

  • add analytics to track page visits

  • improve SEO and page performance

  • add more case-study style projects

  • refine design based on feedback
